Devon Energy Invests in Conservation Projects in Texas & New Mexico

Devon Energy | July 6th, 2022ARTESIA, N.M. (July 6, 2022) — Hundreds of playa acres in the Texas panhandle and southeastern New Mexico will be better protected thanks to a generous gift from Devon Energy.

The company recently partnered with Ducks Unlimited (DU), a world leader in wetlands and wildfowl conservation. Devon’s contribution will specifically support on-the-ground conservation projects through DU’s Southern Prairies and Playas Initiative, which helps protect the Ogallala Aquifer and ensure sustainable water resources and wetland habitats.

“We can do far more for wildlife, water and people when we work together toward shared goals like restoring these imperiled wetlands,” said Bob Locke, DU’s director of development for north Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. “DU leverages investments from companies like Devon with individuals, foundations and public funding opportunities to leave a shared legacy of improved water quality and quantity. Thanks to support from companies like Devon, we’re leaving a more sustainable wildlife habitat for the people living and working here today and for future generations.”

Christina Rehkop, Devon’s director of community relations, said DU’s efforts are vital in protecting access to clean water for wildlife and people.

“Ducks Unlimited is doing important work in maintaining the Ogallala Aquifer for communities, individuals and animals in the semi-arid Southern Great Plains,” Rehkop said. “All residents of West Texas and eastern New Mexico will benefit from their efforts, and Devon applauds their commitment to sustainability.”

In June, Devon representatives joined with other DU major sponsors — including Williams, ONEOK and Cargill — for a roundtable discussion on environmental social governance and community investments.
