Scott Kidwell of Concho Resources Elected NMOGA Chairman of the Board

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO – Today, the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association (NMOGA) announced the election of Scott Kidwell as the organization’s new Chairman of the Board of Directors. Kidwell is Senior Vice President of Administration at Concho Resources, one of the largest producers of oil and natural gas in New Mexico.

“It’s an honor to lead NMOGA at such an exciting time for New Mexico as the oil and natural gas industry continues to reach new heights,” said NMOGA Chairman Scott Kidwell. “Oil and natural gas are a vital part of New Mexico’s economy, and are responsible for providing schools and communities the support they need to make New Mexico stronger. We’re committed to doing our part to building a brighter future for all New Mexicans, while also working every day to ensure we’re protecting our natural resources and the environment.”

Kidwell succeeds Claire Chase of Mack Energy, and will serve as Chairman for a one-year term into 2020. As Senior Vice President of Administration at Concho, Kidwell is responsible for leading the company’s government affairs and human resources organizations, as well as other administrative functions. Prior to joining Concho, Kidwell was a shareholder at Lynch, Chappell & Alsup PC, and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University. Headquartered in Midland, Texas, Concho is an independent exploration and production company engaged in the acquisition, development and exploration of oil and natural gas properties. Concho’s operations are concentrated in the Permian Basin of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas.

“We’re excited to have Scott’s leadership, knowledge, and vision to guide NMOGA over the next year amid a period of robust growth and expansion for oil and natural gas. Over the past several years, no company has done more to support our state – in education, public safety, and roads – than Concho has as the state’s leading producer,” said NMOGA Executive Director Ryan Flynn. “Concho has regularly ranked as the state’s top producer of oil and natural gas and as a result Scott knows firsthand the opportunities and challenges of operating in New Mexico. He is a real asset to NMOGA, New Mexico, and our entire industry.”

New Mexico is the third-largest oil producer in the United States having produced a record 250 million barrels of oil in 2018, a 46% increase over the prior record set in 2017. New Mexico natural gas production is also on the upswing, coming in at a ten-year high of 1,488,471 Million Cubic Feet for 2018.

The Albuquerque Journal recently reported that New Mexico is on track to collect a record $7.8 billion in revenue, largely driven by growth in oil and natural gas production in southeast New Mexico’s Permian Basin. The New Mexico Tax Research Institute also reports that New Mexico’s general fund and public schools benefit $2.2 billion annually from oil and natural gas taxes and revenue contributions. That includes $822 million in funding for public schools and nearly $241 million for the state’s universities, colleges, and other higher education institutions.

Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association (NMOGA) represents the hard-working men, women, and families of the oil and natural gas industry in New Mexico. NMOGA is dedicated to promoting safe and responsible energy policies, while strengthening New Mexico’s economy and ensuring a bright future for our state’s children.
