New Mexico Runs on Energy. Let's Keep It That Way.
As an oil and gas worker, sign the petition asking lawmakers not to gamble with our schools, our jobs, and our budget.
Oil and natural gas pay for close to half of New Mexico's budget. That's about $2.3 billion a year for schools alone, plus roads, first responders, and health care.
It's also work. More than 100,000 jobs across the state — and not just in the oil field. Construction crews, nurses, truck drivers, and the restaurants and shops in every town where those families spend their paychecks.
The industry is getting cleaner while it does it. Methane emissions from Permian Basin production dropped 26% in 2023. Operators use less than 1% of New Mexico's fresh water, and they recycle more of it every year.
Some proposals in Santa Fe would undo all of that. They'd cost the state billions in revenue and cost thousands of New Mexicans their jobs — without making our air or water any cleaner.
We can protect our land and water and keep the industry that pays for our schools. Tell your lawmakers to do both.
The petition
I am proud to work in New Mexico's oil and gas industry. It's how I support my family, and it's how a whole lot of my neighbors support theirs too. Taxes paid to New Mexico by this industry pays for our schools, fixes our roads, and funds the first responders we all count on. That's not a talking point, it's just how it works here.
I'm asking my elected officials not to support legislation that would put those jobs on the chopping block. If you want new rules, fine, but base them on real science and real results, not politics.
