August in New Mexico means students are back in the classroom and getting ready for another exciting year of learning. We extend a huge thank you to all the dedicated teachers, administrators, and support staff who set students up for success in school and their future careers. For the students in your life, I hope you'll encourage them to sign up for Pathways to Success to learn more about exciting STEM opportunities and future career paths. In addition to receiving resources on oil and gas-related careers and colleges, students will be entered to win the Ultimate Backpack Giveaway including an iPad, AirPods, and keyboard (Deadline to enter: August 15th). NMOGA was proud to partner with Representative Joshua Hernandez and the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club at their annual Back-to-School Bash. NMOGA provided over 100 backpacks to help students start the year with the supplies they need to thrive in the classroom.
NMOGA and our non-profit, Energizing Our Future NM, understand the impact a strong educational foundation has on children and communities, and we're committed to supporting opportunities and resources for learning across New Mexico.

OPINION: New Mexico's success depends on working together
"New Mexico is blessed with extraordinary natural resources, resilient communities and hardworking people who have built our state through generations of dedication and sacrifice. As we discuss our economic future, it is important to recognize the industries that make many of our shared priorities possible.
The oil and gas industry is one of those industries. While production is concentrated in parts of southeastern and northwestern New Mexico, the benefits reach every county in our state. The revenues generated through oil and gas production help fund our public schools, colleges and universities, roads, public safety and healthcare systems. Critical investments in hospitals, behavioral health programs, public mental health facilities and other healthcare initiatives simply would not be possible at their current level without the revenues this industry provides.
As someone who represents northern New Mexico, I know firsthand that communities hundreds of miles from an oil well still benefit from the economic engine that energy production provides. That reality reminds us that New Mexico succeeds when we recognize our shared interests rather than our geographic differences."

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING
The oil and gas industry provides $13.1 billion in state and local revenue, and over $3.1 billion of this funding goes directly to NM permanent funds. The state invests these funds and uses the interest earned to fund essential state programs.
In 2025, New Mexico used $1.6 billion of this investment revenue to support education, healthcare, and public safety services. Over time, the permanent fund continues to grow as interest builds and additional funds are added, creating a long-term stable revenue source to support every New Mexican.
