Early voting is open in New Mexico and now is the time to make your voice heard. I encourage all eligible voters to head to New Mexicans for Opportunity to check your registration, find your polling location, and make a plan to vote. Additionally, October is a special time in New Mexico as the leaves begin changing color and colorful balloons fill the sky at the ExxonMobil Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. NMOGA and our member companies are proud to celebrate the traditions that make our state truly enchanting. The NMOGA team had a great time this month in the community. Thank you to Speaker Javier Martinez, Representative Catherine Cullen, Representative Day Hochman-Vigil, Representative Jenifer Jones, Representative Luis Terrazas, and Senator Gabriel Ramos for your engagement with and support for these important causes and impactful organizations. Congratulations to Kristin Garletts, New Mexico's 2027 Teacher of the Year! 🍎
Kristin teaches ninth-grade English language arts and journalism at Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque. In her 20 years as an educator, she has helped students find their voices, build confidence, and see new possibilities for their futures. She's also a National Board Certified Teacher and a go-to technology leader and mentor for her fellow educators.
NMOGA has sponsored the New Mexico Teacher of the Year program since 2019, supporting travel needs and professional development opportunities for the award winner. We are incredibly proud to support Ms. Garletts and all teachers throughout the state.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
GRANT COUNTY FREE FISHING DAY
NMOGA was proud to sponsor NM Free Fishing Day in Grant County, hosted by Representative Luis Terrazas and Senator Gabriel Ramos.
Kids from across the community spent the day on the water alongside local veterans and first responders. Now in its third year, this event gets kids outdoors and connects them with the people who serve our communities. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
UNITED SOCCER CLINIC
NMOGA partnered with New Mexico United and the Office of Speaker Javier Martínez to host a soccer clinic for students at La Mesa Elementary School in Albuquerque on September 8th with support from Representative Day Hochman-Vigil.
New Mexico United players led students through soccer activities centered on teamwork, mentorship, and community, followed by an opportunity for students to meet the players and get autographs. After the clinic, participating students, their parents and guardians, and La Mesa school staff received tickets for New Mexico United's September 26th home game.
NEW MEXICO FUTURE JOBS SUMMIT
New Mexico Future Jobs Summit was Thursday, October 1 in Bernalillo. The summit brought together education, workforce, and industry leaders, including representatives from Central New Mexico Community College, New Mexico Tech, New Mexico State University, University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, Intel, Spaceport America, and others.
There were powerful networking opportunities, particularly for those working with youth, job seekers, veterans, families, and workforce development. Thank you to Representative Catherine Cullen for your support of this event!
SUPPORTING CHILDHOOD LITERACY IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO
On October 8, Representative Jenifer Jones hosted a special literacy event and book giveaway at the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair in Deming, with books provided by NMOGA.
Held in conjunction with the fair’s low-sensory programming, the event helped create a welcoming and inclusive experience for children who may be sensitive to large crowds and noise, while encouraging a love of reading and learning.
NMOGA was proud to partner with Representative Jones to put books into the hands of young readers and support families in southern New Mexico.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING
New Mexico's oil and gas industry generated a total of $13.1 billion in state and local tax revenue in 2025. $2.4 billion of this funding goes towards K-12 and higher education, supporting teacher pay, scholarships, construction and renovation, and more.
$282 million in oil and gas tax revenue funds new school buildings, renovations, and major improvements through the Public School Capital Outlay program. This money supports projects in all New Mexico counties, even in those that do not produce oil and gas.
Across the state, in every public school and university, oil and gas ensures students learn in safe, modern facilities with dedicated teachers prepared to set students up for success. Find out how much you benefit from oil and gas at ForEveryNewMexican.com.
DID YOU KNOW?

$750 million of these funds support the Medicaid program, which is matched by the federal government to generate a total of $2.5 billion in healthcare for low-income New Mexicans.
