NMOGA March Newsletter: Energizing New Mexico!

12 March, 2025

As we head into the final 10 days of the 2025 New Mexico legislative session, NMOGA is continuing to protect New Mexico's future by fighting bad bills targeting the oil and gas industry. Some of these bills would increase taxes on energy production in our state, putting jobs and economic growth in our communities at risk.

We greatly appreciate everyone who has already taken action by emailing and calling their state legislators to support the oil and gas industry. Your voice makes a difference in Santa Fe!

This month, we're highlighting the far-reaching work NMOGA's membership does for communities across New Mexico. From education and civics to health and nature, the oil and gas industry is energizing New Mexico!

Thank you to to the over 100,000 New Mexicans who power the oil and gas industry in New Mexico! Your work helps keep energy costs low and is the backbone of our state economy.

Energy Pathways

Teacher Spotlight: Daniel Flores

The oil and gas industry is proud to partner with our communities all across the state. In fiscal year 2024, oil and gas tax of more than $279 million went directly to New Mexico public school. We've talked with teachers about how the oil and gas industry is making an impact in the classroom, in addition to the tax revenue dollars.

Daniel Flores highlights how education and Industry are working together in Carlsbad High School's Energy Pathway curriculum, to build tomorrow's oil and gas workforce in New Mexico! We're so proud of teachers like Daniel Flores and his industry partners as they prepare students for the amazing opportunities ahead in New Mexico's oil and gas industry.

NMOGA Hosts Girl Scout Day at the Roundhouse

NMOGA had the honor of sponsoring Girl Scout Day at the Roundhouse, welcoming 150 Girl Scouts from across the state for a day of civic engagement and leadership development.

NMOGA provided lunch for the attendees and hosted an interactive activity focused on the importance of voting and civic participation. In the ultimate voting showdown, the young ladies voted between green v red chile. (Green won!) The Girl Scouts hosted a town hall discussion with legislators engaging in meaningful civic leadership dialogue.

We are proud to support programs that empower young women, foster civic engagement, and inspire future leaders in our state.

NMOGA at AgFest 2025: Honoring New Mexico’s Agricultural Industry

NMOGA was proud to sponsor and participate in AgFest 2025, a biennial event that brings together New Mexico’s agricultural leaders, producers, and policymakers to celebrate the vital role of the agriculture industry in our state.

We recognize that agriculture and energy are deeply connected—both industries power New Mexico’s economy and provide resources that support communities across the state. Thank you to everyone who made AgFest 2025 a success!

NMOGA Supports Women’s Heart Health at Go Red for Women Luncheon

NMOGA was honored to support and attend the American Heart Association New Mexico’s Go Red for Women Luncheon, joining community leaders, health advocates, and industry partners in raising awareness about heart disease—the leading cause of death for women. As part of our commitment to community well-being, NMOGA was proud to help make this event possible and stand alongside those working to improve heart health across New Mexico.

A special thank you to the American Heart Association New Mexico for organizing such a meaningful event and to all who attended to champion this critical cause.

NMOGA Helps Bring New Mexico’s Ancient Life to Light

NMOGA is proud to help sponsor the Ancient Life Exhibit, a new addition to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science that explores the prehistoric creatures and ancient oceans that shaped our state—and its energy resources.

The exhibit showcases the fossilized remains of marine life that once thrived in New Mexico’s shallow seas, illustrating how organic material from millions of years ago became the oil and natural gas that power our world today. We encourage everyone to visit the exhibit to see how ancient life continues to fuel our future.

NMOGA Engages Future Workforce at Plan My Future Career Fair

NMOGA was proud to participate in the Plan My Future Career Fair at The Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, NM. This event brought together 1,500 middle and high school students from across southern New Mexico, providing a valuable opportunity to introduce them to exciting career paths in the state’s oil and gas industry. Our team engaged with students, sharing insights into how the industry supports local communities and offers rewarding, high-tech career opportunities right in their backyard.

Legislative Update

Despite the $13 billion generated yearly in state revenue by the oil and gas industry, politicians in Santa Fe continue to push legislation that would target the industry. This bill will make New Mexico even more reliant on oil and gas revenue and risk sending oil and gas jobs to Texas and Oklahoma.

To support the oil and gas industry and keep jobs and investment in New Mexico, contact your state legislators here.
